Job Summary
Sun Tribe EPC (“ST EPC”) is Virginia’s premier utility scale Solar design and build firm focused on designing and constructing sub 20MW ground mounted Solar Photovoltaic (PV) facilities. 

The Senior Civil Superintendent diligently plans, directs, and oversees the site work construction of projects. As a critical part of the delivery team, the Senior Civil Superintendent is accountable for civil construction outcomes of the project. They will develop civil construction and vegetation strategies during preconstruction and will monitor, manage, and drive civil construction aspects to stay on budget and schedule while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, quality, design, and Sun Tribe core values throughout the course of construction. The Senior Civil Superintendent will oversee several projects concurrently and will manage and mentor junior Civil Superintendents.

This position reports directly to the Vice President, Construction and works closely with other key staff including, construction management, project management, project engineering, quality, EHS, clients, and subcontractors.

Responsibilities
  • Civil Construction Leadership: Oversee and manage site work scopes across multiple projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards.
  • Subcontractor Management: Direct subcontractor performance, drive accountability, and ensure adherence to project milestones, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Quality & Compliance: Develop and implement civil quality and environmental plans; conduct audits, inspections, and daily site walks to verify compliance and workmanship.
  • Planning & Preconstruction: Participate in civil drawing reviews, site visits, subcontractor RFP processes, and development of site work strategies, stabilization plans, and scopes of work.
  • Issue Resolution: Lead resolution of construction issues, coordinate subcontractor activity, and prepare sites for inclement weather.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Manage and mentor Civil Superintendents, support Construction Managers, and serve as a key leader for high-priority projects.
  • Cross-Functional Support: Step into Construction Manager responsibilities as needed, contribute to process improvement, and provide strategic input on construction flow and resources.

Basic Qualifications Required
  • High School Diploma or GED required, Bachelor’s degree in construction management or related field preferred
  • At least four (4) years’ experience supervising or performing civil work
  • Strong knowledge of civil engineering drawing
  • Detailed understanding VA DEQ regulations and DEQ SWM/ESC Handbook required

Skills & Experience Preferred
  • VA DEQ erosion and sediment control inspector certification
  • Responsible Land Disturber certification
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • Strong computer skills (MS Outlook, Excel, Word, Slack, Procore)
  • Experience directing subcontractors and tradespeople
  • Strong planning, organization, and communication skills
  • Proven ability to foster safe, respectful, and productive site cultures

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
  • Approximately 90% field work and 10% office work (office work based in Charlottesville with hybrid flexibility)
  • Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsites in all types of weather (walking, climbing, bending, stretching, etc.)
  • Exposure to characteristic construction site hazards; PPE required at all times on project sites
  • Flexible schedule, with occasional evening and weekend work as required by project needs
